FIEL FAMILY AND THE WORlD WAR
It is very nice to sit before our Fiel elders and listen to their stories. One Saturday morning, I took the challenge of visiting Sr. Milagros Fiel of the Blue Sister’s Covent in Poinsettia, Quezon City.
We first talked about her roots of which she shared that her grandfather is named Simplicio Fiel from Ormoc. Her lolo Simplicio married twice.
Of the first marriage, Simplicio had two sons: Agido Fiel and Agaton Fiel.
Of the second marriage, Sr. Milagros could only remember Tiyo Patro and Atty. Oscar.

Sr. Milagros shared that her father, Agaton Fiel married Emiliana Tan. She described her father Agaton as “studious and a brilliant editor of a Spanish paper.” He was a valedictorian in San Beda. He was also under the Jesuits during his pre-law years but he finished law in UST under the Dominicans.

1. Antonio Fiel -- not married, an engineer. He was taken by the Japanese during the World War II and he was never seen again. Ito ang nangyari: When McArthur landed in Leyte, all were very enthusiastic. When he was caught having an earphone, he was captured by the Japanese. Sr. Milagros believed her brother was brought to the Fort Santiago.
2. Josefina Fiel – a.k.a Sister Anne Fiel of the Religious of the Good Shepherd (RGS). She is now based in Katipunan Road, malapit sa Ateneo de Manila.
3. Natividad Fiel – died in an accident in the States.
4. Milagros Fiel – the one I interviewed
5. Charlie/Carlos Fiel – studied in Ateneo de Manila University; worked as PR in Makati. He is the father of the freelance writer Corito Fiel. He was known for his writings “Playing Poker with God” and “Blue Lady.” He was a “dormant genius” according to Sister Milagros. He died in Canada.
6. Celina Fiel – a.k.a. Sister Teresita of the Religious of the Good Shepherd. She is now in St. Bridget School in Batangas. Good in writing.
WORLD WAR STORY
One night during the World War II, they heard a knock at around ten in the evening. The Japanese came and asked them to surrender their radio. Agaton Fiel’s Family had already given the radio earlier to another family, so wala na silang maipakita. The Japanese soldiers asked Agaton to go with them. The family members were already crying.
At the end of the staircase, the Sacred Heart of Jesus was hanging and when the Japanese passed by there, Emiliana Tan (the wife of Agaton Fiel) asked the soldiers if they could pray first as a family. “Because we are Catholics,” Emiliana asserted.
The Japanese consented. That was December 6. The family prayed hard for a miracle since the following day would be the birthday of their father Agaton.
After the prayer, the family members kissed their father goodbye. And indeed the miracle happened. The Japanese soldiers decided not to take Agaton Fiel with them anymore…
ADDITIONALS:
Carlos Fiel married Cecilia Capistrano, daughter of the Justice of the Supreme Court.

3. Bobbit (based in Canada)
4. Carlos Fiel Jr. (???)
5. “Lilo” Fiel – she finished fine arts daw
***
Natividad Fiel married Gil Rodriguez Pelegrin (Gil died 4 years ago daw).
1. Antonio Fiel Pelegrin
2. Baby Fiel Pelegrin
3. Gil Fiel Pelegrin Jr.
4. Teresita Fiel Pelegrin
5. Asuncion Fiel Pelegrin
6. Chit Fiel Pelegrin

FIEL CLAN RESIDENCE IN DAVAO
I have been wondering what moved many of my Fiel ancestors to leave Sibonga, Cebu before the Second World War and go to the unfamiliar pastures of Mindanao. I noticed that most of the Fiel from Mindanao are from the line of Elias Fiel.
The missing link remains: where are now the descendants of Isaac Fiel, the only brother of Elias? Where did they settle? Did they go to Leyte or Samar or remained in Cebu?
Most of the old Fiel residences in Davao are two-storeys. Our present home in Kiblawan is also the same. Feautured here is the house of the brother of my lolo Feliciano Fiel, Lope Fiel.

This is the wedding picture of Lolo Lope Fiel and Lola Julie Cudera. Sana magkaroon tayo ng Fiel Museum so we could preserve our common heritage...
***

This is Lolo Lope's residence since 1930 in Dapok, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. I had beautiful memories of this house. When I was still in elementary (1988-1994), I usually had my lunch here together with my cousins. Few years ago, the Fiel Clan reunion was held here. I remember Fiel clan from Gensan also came...
***

Lolo Lope died on January 2, 2009. This is Lola Julie with her grandson and my second cousin, Jaime Fiel Talaugon.

MY GREAT-GRANDFATHERS
This is a product of my painstaking research. I hope that by posting it here, I could also help some of the Fiel families out there to trace their roots in the Fiel Family Tree. If you know some of the personalities in my family tree, please leave some message for me.
I have said before that Elias Fiel is my great-great grandfather and that he has only one brother named Isaac Fiel and that they settled in Gibangkuan, Sibonga, Cebu...
I hope to go to Sibonga, Cebu this May 2009 to research more about Elias Fiel and perhaps to also dig some personalities connected with his brother Isaac Fiel.
Now, this is the list of the SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ELIAS FIEL:
(Please feel free to leave a message in case you know some of them...)
1) Donato Fiel, married to Hermogena Canamo - this is the great grandfather of Jingle Fiel Rosa and Mechelle Fiel...
2) Aniceto Fiel, married to Mantang Terante
3) Felipe Fiel, married to Atang Bustamante
4) Julian Fiel, married to Timothea Mirafuentes. Now, in this link you can check out their sons and daughters, eleven all in all.
5) Nicolasa Fiel, married to Tanoy Mirafuentes - I do not know if Timothea and Tanoy Mirafuentes are also related...
6) Cristina Fiel, married to Enteng Estudillo
7) Bonifacio Fiel, married to Modesta Darong
8) Rosa Fiel, married to Mateo Bustamante - I do not also know if Mateo Bustamante is related to Atang Bustamante.
9) Teodoro Fiel - This might provide us the "missing link" and I hope the Fiel in Leyte will help me trace his family(ies). Since life was hard and transportation before was not as easy as today, di na daw ito na-meet ulit ng kanyang mga kapatid...
10) Santiago Fiel, married to Marcela Mirafuentes
Ano reactions?????

FIEL CLAN REUNION 2008 IN LANAO
Before the year 2008 ended, another Fiel Clan reunion took place in Maranding, Lanao del Norte. Maranding is a highly urbanized barangay of Lala, the largest municipality of the second district in Lanao del Norte. This place is a business center serving not only the populace of Lala but even the people of Salvador and Kapatagan.
The idea of the Fiel Clan reunion for the sons and daughters of Narciso and Venancia Fiel started sometime last year when Lydia Fiel and Jingle Fiel Rosa talked of getting together for Christmas. They were at first hesitant because one of the siblings (Nolito Fiel) was nowhere to be found. With the help of Mechelle Fiel, they agreed to find him by hook or crook or else there will be no reunion at all! Grabe ang drive ng mga ito!
Through friendster, yahoo group and our Fiel Clan Philippine Directory, the son of Nolito Fiel, Nolito Jr. read the posts looking for his father's whereabouts. And the rest is, history...
Narciso Fiel, by the way, is the brother of my great grandfather Julian Fiel. Both are sons of Elias Fiel from Sibonga, Cebu. So, Jingle and Mechelle are my third cousins...
Narciso Fiel was married to Venancia and they had 8 siblings:
1. Roberto Fiel (eldest, now in Mangagoy, Bislig, Surigao City)
2. Romeo Fiel (works at Saudi Arabia)
3. Rosita Fiel (now in Tagum City)
4. Felix(now in Tagum City)
5. Domingo Fiel (now in Buug,Zmboanga)
6. Nolito Fiel (now in Negros)
7. Narciso Fiel(works at South Africa)
8. Marilou Fiel(now in Zamboanga).
Salamat jud sa friendster, yahoo group ug sa blog nato! Few decades from now, kita na poy mag-iyahay ug pangita sa atong mga kaliwat mao nga ilista na jud tawon ninyo ang mga pangalan sa atong mga kagikan para ang mga henerasyon sunod nato dili na magkapuliki ug trace sa atong mga roots. Hehe.

***

Romeo Fiel, the host of the reunion
***

The Sentimental Fiel brothers. Kamo daw magkita after many, many years beh, di ba ma mag-senti.
***

***

They kids enjoyed it!
***

***

Posing muna habang naghihintay sa pagkain...
***

Three of the Fiel siblings
***

Rosita and Marilou Fiel
***

THE FIEL CLAN PHENOMENON

When I was young, I thought the Fiel Clan here in Davao are the only Fiel living in this wide, wide world: I knew my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles, my cousins, as well as my third degree cousins. I took pride that the Fiel Clan especially here in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur are well-known (some are into politics) and above the conventional standards (mestizos and mestizas), not to mention, owners of hectares of lands.
Then, some Fiel from Pagadian visited us once in a while. My lolo told me that they are also my cousins. More interesting still was that event when we had our annual reunion in Ynciertos Beach, Digos City. A man in his 50's joined us all the way from Leyte, and he was surprised to find out that the Fiel clan in Davao were indeed his relatives.
Fast-track. 2008: When I created the Fiel Clan Blog last May 2008, I found out that there are so many Fiel scattered all over the Philippines!!!
When Friendster was bogged down last December 2008 and I activated my facebook account, I was also surprised to meet many Fiel from the US, and all of them have Pinoy connections!!!
This post will address the Fiel Clan phenomenon...
SOON....
